His hands had taken to shaking in the days approaching his rut, a tremor he’d been fighting for two years.“Dean, you need a date,” Sam said, looking from Dean’s fingers curling around the railing to the numbers changing on the elevator panel.
“I’m fine,” Dean responded.
“Your tremor is getting worse.”
“We got more important shit to worry about.”
Sam continued to look at the numbers. “You’re almost forty, Dean.”
“And I had an omega, Sam. We lost her. This is...this is something else. This isn’t...Dad was eventually fine after Mom died-”
“Debatable.”
“This is just…” Dean lifted his left hand in front of his face and watched it shake. A ding echoed through the car and the doors slid open. He smoothed out his suit jacket and smiled tightly at Sam as he walked out onto the floor they landed on. “Maybe it’s psychosomatic, huh?” he finished bitterly.

You licked your bottom lip between your teeth and chewed on it for a minute. You hadn’t seen John since Detroit, almost a year ago. You set the pieces of your gun down and stood, opening the door as John climbed down out of his GMC truck and smiled at you. “Well, you’re a sight for sore eyes, kid.”
You smiled. After a year with nothing but phone calls and emails, he was a welcome sight, too. “You too, old man.”

Sam was waiting for you in the doorway of room 108 as you approached the motel. The Impala was not in the parking lot. “Where-” you started to ask but Sam’s averted gaze answered for you. “Left so that you could help with my heat, didn’t he?”“Said he didn’t wanna see it,” Sam answered.
“Whatever. I’m not in heat yet. He could have stuck around for a few hours.” You pushed past Sam into the room and picked up your duffel from the floor, shoving the plastic bag into the duffel and zipping it up.
“I think you’re closer than you think you are,” Sam said, closing the door behind him. “He said he’s gonna get a room of his own.”
“Sure.”
“What’s going on with you two?” He sprawled across the end of the bed and looked up at you. “You two were getting close again. What happened?”
“Nothing happened.” You shrugged. “Nothing changed. Nothing will.”
Sam’s eyebrow went up. “What does that mean, Y/n?”
“I told him how I feel, how I’ve always felt...and I thought things would change, but they haven’t. They’re not going to. So, it’s...it’s fine. I’ll deal.”
