“Why are you here?” Hal asks, feeling the beginning of a headache pounding in his skull.

The kid, Jason, stops chewing on Hal’s potato chips and looks at him as if he’s stupid for asking a reasonable question. “Because Batman hates you the most, duh.”

    Summary

Everyone in Genosha knows how mutants came to be.
Decades ago, Genosha was a land with scarce resources that were constantly fought over. When Capitol came, they created a system of districts - 13 major regions, each with a specific purpose. But one day the districts repaid them by rebelling for their supposed misfortune. The rebels were many but the Capitol had strength and resources. They made their own army with the genetically engineered the x-gene - men and women who shoot lasers from their eyes and wore metallic armor as skin; mutants.
The mutants easily defeated the rebels and the Capitol’s prized soldiers lived on in the districts to keep an eye out for trouble. To create balance between humans and mutants, however, the Capitol put up protective domes over every district - they barred mutants from using their powers, unless they were needed. Those mutants eventually had babies that inherited their genes - the X Gene. To remind each resident of what mutants were and how easily the rebellion was crushed by them - the Capitol created games, in which 24 mutant children would fight to the death for the glory of their district and keeping their powers forever.
At least that's what they say.
