“You speak with such certainty, but you don’t seem that convinced of it yourself,” he answered, tugging uncomfortably around the already large collar of his tunic. The heat was overwhelming him now, to the point that the cold air of the corridor didn’t even make him flinch. Everything was warm—Maybe too warm.
Olruggio cackled at him, waving his hands around in hopes of dissipating that line of conversation entirely. He then took a step towards Qifrey, casually invading his personal space as on any other ordinary day, “Now that I’ve explained myself, won’t you let me take care of you?”

It starts, as so many things seem to, with Qifrey being absolutely miserable. It's not the ever present ache of his missing eye that used to follow him every waking second, nor the quiet underlying sense of dread that had never left him, cultivated by his own design to keep the silvertree roots at bay before the medics at the healing spire has cut him open and removed it with a precision no one thought possible. No, this was an entirely different sort of misery, one that was so mundane it bordered on comical in contrast to what he had endured.
Qifrey, quite plainly, is sick.

“Not very watchful of you, hm?” Qifrey responds after a moment. Olruggio raises an eyebrow.
“Oh please,” Olly scoffs, gesturing to their home. “We’ve been grading each other’s homework for years. You know where my morals stand. I’m plenty watchful where it counts.”

After the events of Silver Eve, Qifrey makes the difficult decision to tell Olruggio and the girls his secret. His apprentices come up with many ways to keep him on edge and alert. Olruggio, too- although using slightly less… conventional methods.
