Essek barely allowed him to step into the main floor. Lavender fingertips pressed to Caleb’s chest, backing him up to the door and shutting it behind him. Though Essek was extremely underdressed compared to Caleb in his undone hair, bare feet, and casual wear, he pulled himself up to his full height –still several inches shorter than Caleb when not floating– and glared up at Caleb with a well practiced indignant facade.

“Yes,” he says. “I do.”A re-imagining of the confrontation from episode 97 from the original campaign, with this new alternate Essek backstory from the animated series, told from Essek's POV. Mostly Caleb and Essek focused, with some canon Jester and Caduceus dialogue.

“I believe I had just blown up a window that you and Ikithon were standing next to.”
Caleb felt his eyebrows fly up to his hairline.
Even with his perfect memory, his recollection of that moment was muddied by the very powerful magic explosion that had preceded it. But still, he remembered.
In a daze, on his knees, looking up to see a soldier flying in through the shattered remains of the window. He remembered the dark lines of their armour, sharp and foreign to him. The sound it had made, as they’d landed before him. Not just any soldier. A Kryn soldier. He remembered his shock, surely evident on his face.
A cape had whipped behind them in the wind, looking for a moment like wings, marking them as more than just a mere soldier, as the leader of the attack.
And Caleb had watched, mouth agape, transfixed.
“That was you?”

“How-” His throat caught as his heart seized. Fuck. He’d already slipped up. Master Ikithon was going to be furious. “No, you have the wrong-”
“No need to lie.” The elf lifted his palm. His violet eyes caught Bren’s frantic gaze, and he visibly came to a decision. “Bren, you are suffering from acute psychic temporal displacement. I highly suspect it is due to a magical experiment we just performed.”
“Amnesia,” he translated. “You- You’re saying I have amnesia. Memory loss.”
