After the war is over, William Laurence and Temeraire go to live on the estate of Tenzing Tharkay. It is a brave new world.
30 days' worth of prompts -- ranging from drabbles to over-long fics in their own right -- all (mostly) in the same post-canon story I am projecting for them. Narrative is non-linear but canon-compliant, so spoilers for all 9 Temeraire novels.

Hollanov; Skip; mostly canon-compliant.
THE VISIOn!!! I did not even knew I need bitchy gay Kip and bitchy bi Ilya as chirping bitchy partners in crime, but this author has the Sight. The gumption. The gift. Hilarity.
(And yeah, the A/Ns mention the story took on a little of a life of its own — because the sad thing about it-takes-one-to-know-one is also that this is the glowing sign on the door of the closet. And Ilya, as we know (and by Santa Tierney de Montréal, we shall learn again in s2), Ilya **wants to be seen**. So this was literally laugh out loud funny... and also, at a few key moments, genuinely poignant and lovely.)

Summary
The Swiss National League doesn’t care about the legendary Hollander-Rozanov rivalry. When the MLH can’t negotiate with the Hockey Players’ Union in time to prevent a hockey lockout at the start of the 2015 season, the Zürich Lions jump at the chance to sign both Shane and Ilya to short-term contracts. For four months in Switzerland, they share a team, a line, a house, and a bed.
Then the lockout ends in January, and it’s time to go back. Back to different countries, cities, lives. Beds.
Reentry is harder than expected.

You wondered, maybe, how quickly they could fall in love if they actually had time together earlier—real, sustained time, alone together? Okay but did you then wonder what would happen if that time was *just long enough* to fall in love, and just short enough to make the secret relationship an open wound? DID YOU?
(Unbelievable. One chapter in the most, erm, economical prose you can imagine if the thing you're trying to imagine with your economical imagination is *pining*. I'm hitting that refresh button for Ch. 3/3 like my like hangs in the balance.)

Kirk/Spock; TOS; post-first 5Y mission.
I am so serious—IF YOU ONLY READ ONE STAR TREK FIC EVER, LET IT BE THIS ONE. I cannot understand why the entire fandom hasn't simply made a collective holiday to praise this fic and live in its world.
In brief: The depths of wanting here. The impossibility of overcoming a lie/misconception that Somebody believes is true. The equal impossibility of letting each other go. Truly a love story for adults, about adults, with their shortcomings and blindspots and walking wounds.
Or, in other words: What do you do with a starship captain when he stops being a starship captain? What misunderstandings and fears and mistakes could *ever* be so big as to keep two soulmates as different as Kirk and Spock apart? And what if the TOS series AND the first ST:TOS movie (TMP) were both actually... good? were the first drafts of a much deeper, richer, more agonized, more mysterious, more consequential story? Well! Here is that answer.
(Honestly, I will never think about the first ST film the same way again. Likewise, the Antony and Cleopatra quotation was deeply moving and pretty perfect and changed my sense of that.)

Ilya was good at noticing things about people, and he was good at understanding them. Shane was not. That was okay. Shane had developed his own way of getting to know Ilya. It involved a lot of inane questions and, more importantly, no longer involved condoms.

Hollanov; AU (canon divergent/parallel); getting outed/comphet is a prison.
This is FASCINATING. In the school of writing in which we try to explain to students what "show don't tell" actually looks like in practice? We teach this fic and then just sit there, nodding solemnly, and appreciate. (TOW Shane refuses to deny speculation about his sexuality... and learns to get taken care of.)
I love the contradictions of this fic, how Shane -- baller Shane -- claps back about the homophobia and the prurient, truly gross speculation about his private life... and yet *in* private, he feels so conflicted, so unsure, so unsettled, so in need of comfort. Get you a man who feels is all. And then give that man a loverboy of all time.
