Summary
Fall, Mississippi, 1932
Dark heavy clouds draped over the sky, shielding the golden rays of the sun as a grey colored the land. Quiet raindrops knocked against the roof of the small church, the wind whispered against the windows, yet the silence settled comfortably as Talia sat still on the pews. Her hands clasped one another, the slight rocking of her thumb as she dug her nail into her palm, the smoothed skin of scar scraped from her finger. She came everyday to ask forgiveness, to find forgiveness from the hateful eyes of the town, but most of all to ask for forgiveness from herself. Yet no matter her asking, her begging, she would never give herself the satisfaction, a grace she would never deserve even if she repent her actions everyday of her life. The aged creak of wood echoed through the hollowed church as she stood up from the pews, soft pale fabric sweeping the skin of her ankles whilst hands straighten the front of her dress.
