As soon as Keith turns, there’s a crate pushing against Lance’s chest. Unprepared, he grapples to find a grip, but Keith’s hold is steady. When Lance finally finds purchase, there's a hand brushing against his own.

Stella marches over to him, stopping about a foot away. She grabs his wrist and pulls his hand up, pressing it to her breast. His fingers stiffen against the warmth of her feathers. Grinning at him, she squeezes her talons more tightly around his arm.
“If you care for me at all,” she says, “you will get over yourself and fuck me. And when I eventually pop out an egg, I will be more than happy to stay far away from you and your hideous little ass.”
Stolas swallows around nothing, body alight with shame. As much as he has no choice in this, neither does Stella. It's what their families expect.

He gasped and went perfectly still, staring down at his hands, at the blood black as motor oil spilling out of him, dripping onto the cutting board and gathering in a shimmering pool. The pain spread through his body like a splash of ink in a glass of water, stark at first but diffusing quickly, disappearing but leaving every drop changed.
And in his head, blessed, ringing silence.
No thoughts, no words, just the fading memory of pain as bright and sharp as a lightning strike, already gone by the time the rumble of thunder came rolling through the air.

Will be 32 years old this year, for heaven’s sake. Feel strongly that now is the moment to take charge of my life.
