Summary
John sees it happen. Watches as Lyle’s chopper takes a critical rotor hit and starts spinning. At the same moment, he hears Lyle’s voice through the radio—a short, panicked distress call—and John sends his own message to ground control, requesting immediate support.
The answer that comes through is clear: Pull back. Stay out of range.
But John can see that Lyle is losing altitude. He’s not going to recover. He’s going down—fast—and the crash will be dangerously close to the base that fired on them.
There is nothing he can do to stop it.
And while he should retreat, should wait for a safe rescue mission to be set up, the decision to follow Lyle isn’t even hard.

The bad guys had a great deal of fun toying with John Sheppard, dragging him around by an improvised leash, subjecting him to punitive ass-kicking to try and break his spirit. Yet their best score was when they managed to take away something very dear to him: his ability to snark back at them.

Summary
A funeral yet again calls Sheppard back to good, ol, ordinary, boring Earth. Ronon even came once more for moral support. But trouble and bad luck seem to find the men as always, having them realise nothing really that banal ever happens to them, Earth or not.
In a word, Sheppard gets caught in some unexpected danger. Firefight, chases, and injuries ensue. Ronon is Batman, Sheppard doesn't do too bad either, considering he is on the receiving end of the whump.

It was supposed to be a simple medical outreach mission with Teyla, Keller, and two of her techs, so Sheppard figured. They were only to check out some mysterious so-called curse hitting a planet's colonists. Though the babysitting outing quickly turns dark and eerie for the colonel, and invisible dangers afflict him until he cannot help but wonder: is it the curse? What is this terrible sense of dread?
... Who or what is out there to get him?(A little horror-themed spooky tale of whump. Includes a lot of wondering what is going on, surprise and hidden injuries, and a bit of action too)
