Batman hates time travel.
Terry especially hates it when time traveling psychotics destroy his timeline. Yeah, okay, so Old Man Wayne managed to stop the bastard. Whatever.
That still means that Terry is stuck in a past that isn’t his own, in a reality just familiar enough to be painful. All he has left from his old world is a busted TARDIS, a bratty little brother with PTSD, and a dog big enough to make apartment hunting difficult. Terry isn’t even Batman anymore, he’s just… the Shadow of the Bat.
(Plus, the less said about his newly acquired stalkers the better.)

ART said, “This is only a hypothesis, based on the pattern of metabolic activation in your organic parts.” It showed me a bunch of charts and stuff that I didn’t understand, with stuff like estimated caloric burn, hormone profiles, and a bunch of chemicals and medical words I didn’t know. “I’ve seen similar physiological activation in some of my students shortly before they chrysalized. Your body may be in the beginning stages metamorphosis.”
This was so gob smackingly absurd that I was speechless for an entire 10 seconds.
I said, “My body already reached its imago form.”
ART said, “Yes.”
I said, “Nobody pods after their adult imago form.”

Being left unobserved to just do my job was... nice.
It was nice. This was a nice contract. I didn't think those two words could be put together in that order.
(Or; Murderbot's latest group of clients are weird. They don't seem at all wary of the potential dangers of the planet, and they're both uncannily aware of how to navigate around SecUnit and completely heedless of the very real threat it poses. Which could mean nothing at all.)

I could put Ratthi in a seat, cover him with the webbing, and sit next to him. He’ll probably be safe enough that way, and about as comfortable as he’s going to be with that massive wound on his right thigh and all the other, smaller injuries he gathered over the course of being kidnapped by complete bastards for four hours, thirty-seven minutes, and fifteen seconds.
I sit in one of the seats, on top of the webbing, and arrange Ratthi so he’ll be as comfortable as I can make him, and then just hold on to him tightly. Because he might be a little more comfortable outside the webbing. And also because Ratthi was kidnapped by bastards for four hours, thirty-seven minutes, and fifteen seconds, and they shot him and injured him in various ways, and he’s probably traumatized and needs someone to hold on to him.
Did I mention that Ratthi had to watch Gurathin get beaten up, because the Kidnapping Bastards were trying to get Ratthi to give them information that didn’t even exist, and the more he tried to explain that to them, the worse they were to Gurathin? Because that also happened.
So yeah, Ratthi’s traumatized. And no, I’m not letting go of him before I have to.
