Summary
Edward woke up shaken from that nightmare, his body was covered by a small layer of sweat, and he felt dizzy when he saw how the sun was still not coming out of the window of the room.
He didn't want to be tempted to look across the bed and notice how that side was still empty, with the sheets in complete order.
If only Steve had kept his promise, if only he was still there, he would have hugged his husband's body tightly.In the darkness he noticed that ring on his ring finger gleaming, a constant reminder that his husband was not there.
But hundreds of miles away, unable to communicate daily, both clinging to a I'll be back soon.
With her hair in disarray, he tried to settle back to sleep, though he found it more difficult every night.
His bulging six-month pregnant belly limited the number of ways he could settle back to sleep.
As his eyes managed to close to finally get back to sleep, the little being he carried in he belly began to kick him."Let's go to sleep sweetie, I know you miss daddy too Steve" he whispered carefully caressing his belly, feeling the baby's movements begin to calm down so that in the middle of the night she could fall back asleep.

“I really thought you liked me,” Eddie said with naked vulnerability on his face.
“I did,” Steve said without hesitation, “like you.”
At the time, he was still figuring things out and he had reacted badly when Eddie kissed him. He could admit now that what he had felt for Eddie then was so much more than just liking him. He had longed for him, wanted him, needed him. No one saw Steve the way Eddie had. It had been good and beautiful and fragile… And Steve ruined it like an ignorant child who didn’t know what he had been given. But then Eddie had gone and ruined it worse.
Eddie was looking at him in shock, eyes wide.
