Adores him with every staccato beat of his heart so surely, so intently, that he’s positive that if he were to be hooked up to a polygraph machine and be asked if he loves Shane Hollander, the shape of his pulse as he answers “yes” would coincide with the rhythm of Shane’s bashful laughter anytime Ilya tells him that his freckles are stunning.

Ilya might never step foot in Russia ever again. Might never walk the streets that watched him grow up or hear his native language roll off the tongues of everyone around him. Might never get another chance to visit his mother’s grave until the day his bones are laid to rest beside hers.
Russia used to be home, where he thought he felt the most like himself.
But now?
Ilya knows, as Shane holds his gaze with stars in his eyes and those beautiful freckles gleaming in the sunlight, that his home will always be right here in front of him.

Back at the cottage after coming clean about their newfound relationship, Shane starts to feel guilty for making Ilya choose between him and the only home he’s ever known. For Ilya, though, it was never really much of a choice at all.
(Or, Shane learns how to make Ilya’s favorite childhood meal, and Ilya has a lot of feelings about it.)

“Да. Yes. Ilya Rozanov.” Ilya said looking at the woman, Rose, he presumed. He shifts his gaze to his victim with an apology on his lips. Only for every word he had ever learned in English or Russian to completely slip his brain, except one.
Freckles.
That was all Ilya could manage to think. Freckles.
And so many of them. Adorable brown marks, varying in hue and size, were scattered across the man's cheeks and nose. His nose. Had Ilya ever noticed someone's nose before? He quickly decided not to dwell on that when the boy finally met his stare.
The big eyes that focused on Ilya were nothing short of beautiful. Pools of brown swirled around his pupils, which Ilya wanted to dive head first into.
Holy shit this man is stunning. As in, ‘Oh my god I think I just fell in love with you’, kind of stunning.
