Summary
There were a gaggle of kids that happened to be there, packed into the back of a Providence assault vehicle. The reason they were there White Knight was unsure of. There always seemed to be (frankly too many) children jumping across the streets nowadays.
White Knight was many things: an ex-mercenary, the Director of Providence, an ally against Planet Fusion, and currently holding back an EVO attack after an unfortunate mutation in (ironically) the Townsville EVO Research Conference. What he didn't know he was: scouted by another secret organization.

Rex and White Knight deal with the aftermath of being bodyswapped, not knowing when it can be reversed, and each other.

It was cold, and some stupid, oxygen-deprived part of White Knight wished that his death could have been prettier. Maybe instead of an artificial voice tonelessly informing him of a nanite breach in his exosuit while his lower half was crushed and useless, there could have been someone holding his hand and begging for him to stay with them. He doesn’t have enough energy left to even give one last huff to that complete joke. His plans would be fine without him. He made sure of that. He didn’t need to stay around to stop the Consortium, to stop the Meta-Nanites from being abused. White was too good to not consider the possibility that he wouldn’t be around to see the better future he was working towards; not when sacrificing for the greater good included himself.

Summary
Directly controlling the Alpha Rune was a fool's errand. It sat, a mark, a blemish, on the history of Ledgerdomain, interwoven tightly to its existence, the true name of magic itself tuned into reality. Its power burned like fire, turning sanity and reason to ash as it grew from sparks to a roaring blaze — as Hex was so keenly aware.
The Alpha Rune has a creator, and Hex is determined to use them.
