He turns, his ceremonial capelet fluttering to the floor behind him. And instead of the general he had spoken against, his own father stands across from him.
(He couldn’t remember the general’s face anymore. Or his name. It hardly mattered, all things considered.)
Yes, he’d had variations on this nightmare for the past five years, since the first time he’d fallen asleep after that fight. He usually wasn’t aware that it was a nightmare, though. He’d never really had lucid dreams.
So he decided that he didn’t want to stick to the script if he didn’t have to.
