    Summary

Ask her if she reads. No, dumb—she clearly reads.
Say something about the weather. What are you, eighty?
Comment on the book. Too obvious. She’ll know you were staring.
    Just say literally anything—

“Here you go.” Vi set the coffee down gently, voice a little hoarse. “Black. No sugar. Same cupcake as last time.”

Cait looked up at her with that soft, surprised smile again—like Vi had done something remarkable just by remembering.

“Thank you,” she said, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. “You’re very kind.”

Vi scratched the back of her neck, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. She didn’t want to leave. She wanted to stay right there.

But her throat went dry. The café buzzed around them, and Vi’s brain—usually quick, sharp—offered nothing.

    Idiot.
    __________

As December nears, Cait arrives in Zaun, hoping to find a sense of home—something to anchor her through the harshness of military training. She finds it in a quiet café, and in the girl behind the counter who takes her breath away. Truth is, they leave each other breathless.

Neither of them is prepared for what fate has in store for their tragic, yet beautiful story.

    Summary

“Hey,” Vi said softly, her voice slurred just enough to betray her. “Didn’t mean to wake you.”

Caitlyn’s eyes flicked to the bandage at her side, then back to her face. Her reply came just as gently, a mirror of that same effort to keep things from unraveling. “You didn’t.”

Vi leaned against the doorframe, favoring one side. She gestured vaguely at herself, her mouth tugging into the shadow of a smile. “Looks worse than it is.”

    A joke missing its punchline.

Caitlyn didn’t smile. She didn’t even blink.

She wanted to drag Vi to the mirror. Make her look. Make her see the woman Caitlyn had just watched stagger into their home. The blood. The bruises. The way she always seemed to walk the line between defiant and self-destructing, like she thought pain made her real.

    ----

A one-shot set after the war, after Caitlyn and Vi return to their roles as Enforcers — after a day that left them both gutted.

A boy died on their watch. Vi disappeared. Caitlyn waited.

What follows is a fight that begins in silence and ends in the quiet gravity of a shared couch.

There’s no closure. No clean resolution. But something softer: the certainty of love.

    Bookmarker's Notes

An excellent depiction of a fight between Vi and Caitlyn post-canon.

Caitlyn worries about Vi being missing and injured, and Caitlyn wants to be let in, and to process their pain and grief together, rather than making the mistake of hardening and isolating herself again. But Vi feels like Caitlyn is judging her for her unhealthy coping mechanisms, while Vi never had a chance to learn healthier ones. The conflict feels extremely in-character for these two.

    Summary

another explosion comes and goes and, as usual, refuses to take robert with it. with the fate of the suit uncertain, he’s forced to confront the truth he’s been avoiding: the suit might never give him the ending he’d spent half his life expecting. which leaves him with the one outcome he’s utterly unprepared for—being alive in a room full of people who actually give a shit.

(aka, everyone was way too chill about robert almost exploding in the lab, including robert.)

Robert believes it's part of the family tradition to die as Mechaman. After protopulse test #19 causes the suit to explode, Robert has to grapple with the uncertainty of what he's supposed to do now. If dying in the suit is his destiny, surviving feels like a mistake.

Beautifully descriptive, a poignant analogy, and excellent extrapolation of Robert's character and trauma.

    Summary

    She wants them.

She wants Mira and Zoey so badly, in whatever way, shape, or form that comes in.

For once in her life, Rumi wants to be selfish.

Or: HUNTR/X works towards sealing the Honmoon and falls in love along the way. Pre-reveal Rumi, hiding both her patterns and her wants, loves her girls in whatever way she can until she's free (whether that means shielding Mira and Zoey in fights or pretending to be something she's not). She just has to hold out until the Honmoon’s golden. Straightforward enough, right?

A different take on a KPDH rewrite. The girls get together without knowing about Rumi's heritage, but Rumi insists on only giving, not receiving, during sex. She is desperate to hide what she is from the girls she loves, and she makes poorer and poorer decisions out of fear and self-hatred. When Mira and Zoey see a demon wearing Rumi's face, covered in patterns as well as Rumi's blood, they see red and close in for the kill.

This fic features some truly devilishly painful moments for Rumi. All three girls hurt each other in unfathomable ways and it's a wild and tense ride. Beautifully written.
