   Summary

   Boromir was holding the Ring on its chain in his hand. Gold shone red under the weak sunlight, and his thumb swept over it with an odd tenderness. There was a strange light in his eyes.

   “What are you going to do?” Pippin heard himself ask.

   There was silence for a moment. Then Boromir laughed, sudden and loud and defiant in the still air. He turned and knelt down, and Pippin fought the urge to step back from the wild, angry joy in his face. He kept very still and did not flinch when Boromir took him by the shoulders.

   “My friend,” Boromir said, the light red on his face and his eyes gleaming fey. “We are going to bring back the sun.”

   • I don't think all the serious content warnings apply
   • but this fic does not discuss happy things
   • so read at your own discretion
   • Jonathan talks about his feelings and van helsing reveals more of his past
   • we're delving into vampire trauma today lads
   • this really isn't too bad but there's a bit of suicide ideation and discussion of assault
   • But it's not intense
   • this is about as optimistic and fluffy as I get as a writer

   • it is also backstory time
   • big backstory and little backstory
   • also ok in the books jonathan and arthur are just impersonating customs officers???
   • like you're two foreigners how are you doing that
   • so my fic plays this up for laughs
   • mina and lucy is implied but also it's arthurs pov so he doesn't get that

   • so much discussion of vampire trauma
   • how the fuck did this fic get so long
   • also the very real moral of this story is have sex before marriage kids
   • you literally never know when vampires might come in and ruin everything
   • I could not stand what stoker was hinting at so I had to make it canon
   • this is not a graphic fic it is a discussion of rape after the fact

   • the first point of the fic is to discuss what happened between Jonathan and Dracula
   • but the second point of the fic is jonmina jonmina jonmina
   • and also mina and lucy to be honest

   • archive warnings don't apply but this is a heavy one guys
   • disturbing imagery
   • discussions of institutional abuse
   • a brief mental breakdown
   • renfield is the narrator so
   • weird things about blood and insects are to be expected
   • but also good things!
   • this is a story about how the choice of mercy
   • is what ultimately saves both Jonathan and Renfield from the Count
   • this fic exists because Jonathan and Renfield have
   • so much to talk about and they never speak in the books
   • and bc I think Renfield's hero moment needed to have more buildup
   • also Renfield backstory
   • also the Renfield and Seward toxic whatever it is
   • it's not frontseat in this fic bc Seward isn't in it
   • but Renfield thinks about him A Lot
   • so basically jonathan's my boy but mina deserved to be the center of her own story
   • hence this fic
   • I mean Jonathan's still hella in it don't get me wrong but
   • this is taking the strange wonders premise
   • and the role mina plays in that premise as 'one of the boys' and as a badass
   • and it is exploring how Mina gets there
   • look full disclosure I make Jonathan less sexist than he is in the books
   • partially bc I need him to be for the plot to work
   • partially bc the moment where he doesn't speak up for her in the book takes 10 years from my life
   • and I want to write a better world
   • Period Typical Attitudes
   • there will be so much angst and jonmina
   • particularly after october 3rd
   • also guys there is so much feminine rage in this fic
   • there's not really graphic violence here but there's for sure intensity
   • the rats scene is rewritten to be a tad more dire and claustrophobic
