“Shut it, Abby, you’re gonna wake him up!”
Grace buries his head deeper into the crook of his elbow, desperate to get a few more minutes of sleep, the movement eliciting the noise of giggling from the room around him. His brain doesn’t register anything strange about the sound, until he remembers that he’s supposed to be in the middle of space. Space, where Grace should be completely alone, and Rocky should be well on his way back to Erid.
He jolts upright, suddenly far more awake. The quiet giggling erupts into full blown laughter, and Grace suddenly realises that he’s in his classroom, and the students laughing at him are the same ones he last taught fifteen years ago.
Son of a biscuit.
He’s on Earth again.

Ryland Grace gets sent back in time and finds that getting launched into space is a lot harder when you aren’t being dragged there against your will.

Ryland Grace wakes up in a small room alone, where the walls are wrong, his body is wrong, and there's a rock spider like nothing he's ever seen looming over him. He has no memory of how a middle school science teacher could've possibly ended up on an alien planet trillions of kilometers away from the nearest fellow human being- and yet these aliens seem determined to take good care of him.

Summary
Three years after the probes carrying Taumoeba and Dr. Ryland Grace's final message arrive on Earth, humanity launches an interstellar spaceship with a brand new mission. Thirty-six crew members (including two graduates of a certain San Franciscan junior high school) travel to the star 40-Eridani to make friendly contact with the Eridians and bring them the alien life form from Tau Ceti-E that can save their star if Dr. Grace's sacrifice failed.
Grace, now fifty-seven years old, is just trying to balance his life as a teacher while no longer being the only human on the planet anymore. It's a big adjustment, but Rocky and the Terra's Grace crew are going to make sure he's well taken care of.
