    Before he can even process what’s happening, Kocho is stepping into the conversation, smiling in that unreadable way of hers.

    “If Genya is looking for a new sibling, I think I would be a much better choice," she says, pressing a finger to her cheek. “Though I must warn you, there are only women in my family.”

    The newest Hashira was an oddity and a mystery. Only a few years older than Muichiro, but seemingly so much more a child. Loud and displeasing to the ear, crying and wailing constantly, Giyuu didn’t understand how a coward such as Agatsuma Zenitsu could have ever reached a rank such as theirs, particularly without even so much as a shred of evidence regarding his skill.

    It was one of the very few things he and the other Hashira distinctly agreed upon. The boy did not belong. He was unfit to be a slayer, a protector. The boy was a liability, and now, every day he would disappear, up into the mountains of the prefecture they were in, in the middle of winter with Demons supposedly about.

    In search of coal of all things.

    Muichiro shook his head and frowned. “Not it won’t. Nothing will be normal again after what happened. And what if something happens again? I want to be able to protect you this time.”

    No.

    Why would he say that?

    That wasn’t how this was supposed to work.

    He stopped breathing.

    “Don’t say that,” he snapped causing Muichiro to wince. He was hurting his little brother. He was a horrible person. “I’m your older brother. I’m the one who’s supposed to be protecting you.”

     
    Yuichiro lives and has to deal with many changes in his life.
