Summary
Vegas has never experienced an afterglow that burns like an oil fire, a sudden and dangerous thing that he can’t quite remember how best to put out past the panic. It doesn’t help that Pete’s smile is like a torrent of cool water on his feverish skin, making the flames jump higher.
It makes Vegas want to do something dangerous that he’s never really been good at before – it makes him want to take care of Pete. Problem is, he doesn’t really know how.

The constant sound of the heart monitor kept him awake in the early hours of a lonely Wednesday morning. Although not because the sound was particularly annoying or loud.
But because Pete was desperately terrified, it would stop.
The beat was steady and had been for hours. Yet he did not trust it to keep going. Somehow convinced that the moment he closed his eyes and allowed himself to relax, it would flatline. And the silence after would deafen him. Pete had already thought Vegas was dead once.
He didn’t know if he could do it again.
Or Vegas and Pete in their hospital era.
