Summary
Fox wakes to the frantic pinging of his communicator. The sound drills into his pounding head and is all he needs to decide that today is going to suck. He fumbles with the device, his splinted fingers making it awkward and slow.
He answers the call with a pained grunt.
"Fox, the chancellor has been assassinated."
Slag.

When Cody first marched into Fox’s office discussing a Guard command restructuring, Fox thought he had an idea of where this was going. After being forced to flee his own office with half of his commanders taken into custody, the other half on the run, and his own men becoming subject to ludicrous orders, he's not so sure anymore.

He comes to, like he's walking through sludge, feet scraping across— sand? gravel? —the ground in the subconscious way someone breathes. There's something heavy slung across his shoulder, and he almost topples, swaying back and forth like a buoy on Kamino's surface. An awful stench seeps through the filter of his bucket.
There are five thousand, one hundred and twenty-seven levels between the Senate Building and the long-drained ocean floor of Coruscant.
