It was ridiculous, maybe, for Koume to expect things to go completely back to normal upon Eiji's return. But after two years of dead silence, unreturned calls to Eiji and Ibe both, followed by the news that her son was shot in America? Yes, Koume was desperate for some normalcy. Who could blame her? Unrealistic, but warranted.
She was certainly not expecting what did happen. She could not have predicted Ash Lynx.

“I didn’t mean to -,” he added hurriedly, wiping his runny nose with the back of his hand. “I can go back. I’ll ask Max to wire me some m-money and I’ll go back t-tomorrow.”
“I don’t want you to leave.” It didn’t sound like a lie but Ash still searched brown eyes for confirmation. “I’d like you to stay forever.”
Forever. There it was that word again, giving birth to unsustainable hope Ash knew he had to let go sooner or later. It was only a matter of time until Eiji was going to realize he was a lost case, too.
But until then, he was allowed to feel a little bit of whatever that was that took over him whenever he was in the elder boy’s presence. He did not expect to sound so vulnerable when he asked Eiji if he’d lie down with him, nor did he see the relief from being held impossibly tight coming.
He had almost forgotten the way his head fit perfectly in the crook of Eiji’s neck.
