Sometimes, Shadow hates the fact that he exists. This is one of those times. All he wants to do is lie face-down in the sand and either cry or sleep. Probably, sleep is better to do, especially with the boys in his presence. They’re counting on him; he knows it, so he can’t be weak. He has to watch out for them both. The only issue is that both are clearly not nocturnal, and neither of them has successfully rewired their circadian rhythms to justify this existence. Which is bad if they’re going to remain undetected by humans.

Sonic only smiles wider, reaching up and placing his hand on Shadow’s shoulder in a gesture that’s probably meant to be reassuring, before he’s hit with another attack, and he shouts. Shadow loses his focus, and subsequently his balance, and goes right over the edge of the crystal he was running on instead of jumping to the next one. Shit. Fuck.
He quickly makes his way around, heart firmly lodged in his throat. This can’t happen. This won’t happen. This thing is the one thing that can’t go wrong.
“I’m- I’m s-sor…” Sonic groans again as he’s hit with another wave. He sounds awful, Shadow can’t- “Breathe, you idiot…” Shadow takes a breath as he gets closer.
