Eleven years ago, the Barrier broke seemingly on its own the same day Chara and Asriel returned from the dead with no explanation. As monsterkind moved into the Surface following a mysterious set of instructions addressed to Sans, they navigated the complexities of human legislation and society with ease. Following their interest in time anomalies, with new, more advanced technology at their fingertips, Alphys and Sans continued working in said field. They've finally created a device with the ability of allowing the user to see into past timelines and alternate versions of themselves.
Sans is the first to test it. He seeks to find the author of the instructions, who he also suspects is the cause of the permanent deja vu everyone experiences. And, potentially, the time anomaly themself. If there are any answers, they lay somewhere in the past, scattered in time.
