The sky lit up in shades of blue and red as his fingers grazed over Robin's arm. She looked over at him, not looking nearly as scared as she should.
“Fireworks. I forgot they did them on New Year’s.”
Steve frowned, his hand still on her elbow as he looked up. An explosion of white twinkled across the sky. It reminded him of the way the skylight had looked after they escaped the Russian bunker. His stomach churned.
“Happy New Year’s Robin.”

Just because Steve surrived the upside down and a secret underground bunker doesn't mean he's handling it okay.

“Do you believe in aliens?”
“What?”
“Aliens.” Billy repeats.
Two weeks ago, Steve had threatened to gag Eddie with his own underwear if he tried to bring up Dungeons and Dragons during pillow talk one more time.
Eddie had responded with an eye roll and a muttered complaint about how he couldn't believe he was considered the dramatic one in their relationship.
Maybe he had been too quick to judge.

But then by some sick twist of fate, Billy didn’t die. Getting stabbed all over by some giant mind-controlling monster didn’t do him in. Instead- according to Max- a bunch of people who apparently knew all about the so-called Mindflayer swooped in and brought him to a private military base where they saved Billy’s life.
They called it a miracle.
Billy called it penance.

After surviving the mindflayer Billy stops talking.
