Summary
Being an S-Class pilot is something Wolfwood is good at. The skill comes to him as easy as he imagines breathing is for other people. He fights, he destroys, he protects and when everything is done, he's disconnected from KNI and reminded that he is a shape filled with meat and blood instead of steel and electricity.
It's a struggle to be a person. He has his brother's and his friends, but Wolfwood feels like he's left behind pieces of himself with KNI every time he's separated from the mech.
Wolfwood knows he is safe with KNI - as a part of KNI.

As God of Blood, Knives takes issue with how little reward his most devoted receives for his faith and breaks divine precedent to reward a mortal himself.

Wolfwood has a contract with the infamous vampire, Millions Knives. His blood in exchange for cash. Nowhere in the paper did it say Wolfwood has to wear the suits Knives gifts him. He doesn't have to irritate the vampire with affectionate nicknames. It only states that Millions Knives is the only vampire who can drink his blood.
The cash becomes incidental. The real prize is being the beloved.

For the life of him, Nai doesn't know why their resident Orca Mer takes such a liking to him. He's always monopolizing his time, refuses the attention of any of the other human workers at the rehabilitation facility. Wolfwood prefers his company, which is more than Nai can say about most people.
Perhaps he's too indulgent. When the Mer makes another, late-night fuss, Nai can't find it in himself to ignore him.

When Wolfwood finds a man in need, caught up in the heavy summer rains, it's no question at all to take him into his care. The only real concerns he has are the compulsions this man brings to the forefront of his mind - the want to let his eyes linger, fleeting thoughts he can't catch before they take flight. Normally, there's no one around to catch these moments of cracking resolve and Wolfwood doesn't know what it means when this stranger brings them to the surface with just a smile and a kindly voice.

Wolfwood is one of the few humans in his long, lonely life that has seen Vash for what he is and hasn't left him picking bullets out of his skin. He's used to the fear in peoples eyes. He's used to their terror at the sight of his coat or the sound of his gunshots. More than once, he's been chased out of town at the mere sight of his feathers breaking up from under his skin. Wolfwood has seen all of it, knows so much of him that it almost scares him. The priest knew the depths of his lies the moment he took one look at his smile and said it looked better than the expression he'd grown so used to wearing instead.
Wolfwood knows. So when he holds up a blindfold in the privacy of a decent motel, Vash can't express how much that means to him with words.

Vash hasn't had many opportunities to be intimate with other people. Between his bounty, his scars and his unusual anatomy, his prospects are slim. Even on the circumstances he could, there are still parts of himself he prefers to keep under wraps just for the sake of his partners comfort. He considers it a gift when he finally gets the chance to lie with somehow who holds no trepidation about his more alien nature.
