The homeowner's head hit the pillow with a thump, and it was soon a fight to keep his eyes open, but just as he was about to let sleep overtake him, a loud bang rang out.
He shot up, eyes wide and unable to tell if the thud had actually shaken the room or if it was just a result of the bed moving from his startle. He panted, gaze darting to the singular window from where the sound came, it hadn’t repeated and yet it was still ringing strong in the man's ears. Slowly he stood, gathering the courage to peep out, if only for a moment. It couldn’t be too bad, right?
