Jimmy was born long before the Gods of the world had even begun to ponder the creation of soulmates and the Marks to identify them. Long before they had begun to create with intent rather than boredom- and thus before humans, gnomes, elves, and the many other sentient creatures which would be created with them even existed. Thus, he was born without any of the magical marks on his skin. To be fair, he wasn’t even really born with traditional skin at all- but the point still stands.
Scott was born with a bright red poppy blooming in the hollow of his throat. His parents had both been relieved to see it, the contrasting red flower on their son’s skin telling them that his soulmate was already born- and thus more likely than not an immortal. Hopefully, another elf, or one of the fae from the Overgrown, as the flower seemed to suggest.
Prince Sausage of Mythland was born with two intricate marks decorating his skin. His heart was shielded by a copper-scaled fish, a sea of aquamarine and turquoise swirls surrounding it. His hip was adorned with an aged oak branch- grown and carved into the shape of an antler.

Summary
He falls asleep between them that night, and stumbles into his kitchen the next morning- John's button-up thrown over his shoulders and only half buttoned, to find Zara cursing at his coffee machine with a fierce glare. His soulmark is exposed to the light when he lifts his arms to rest around her shoulders with a teasing coo that has her whirling around to face him with an outraged pout that has Nolan melting and cracking up all at once.
John joins them only a few minutes later, to find Nolan making coffee while Zara stews at the counter. He kisses the side of her mouth, her entire face softening as she turns to smile at him, and before any hint of jealous can bloom he's crossed the room to Nolan's side, an arm loosely looping around him, dark eyes watching as he maneuvers the vintage Pour-Over, three novelty mugs of varying degrees of ridiculousness waiting on the counter. Nolan lifts his head to smile up at him, and John kisses him too.
Like it's that easy.
Nolan dares to think that maybe, just maybe, it can be.

How could she run away from the people she wanted nothing more than to spend her life close to.
She had been so close, so close to finally being able to fully lean into Zoey’s hugs, to taking off her long-sleeves during morning treadmill runs with Mira, to going to that damn bathhouse with them.
