Summary
The crime scene that Miles Edgeworth finds himself on is a strange one. The culprit didn't leave behind any clues to point to their identity except for one- a decisive witness who'd viewed the whole murder firsthand.
A witness who also happened to be a living, breathing firebird who introduced himself as Phoenix.
With Phoenix's aid, Miles works to find enough evidence to bring this murderer to justice, all while slowly learning more about his strange new investigative partner.

“I hope you’re happy with yourself," Edgeworth said, acid dripping off every word. "Not only have you angered the most powerful man in the country, but you’ve also ruined the one chance you so desperately wanted to prove yourself. Do you ever even think before you act?!”
Of course he’d thought. He’d thought about how their so-called ‘Great and Powerful’ Wizard had less magical talent in his entire body than Phoenix had in a single blue-tinted finger. He thought about all the innocent lives that had been ruined for the sake of maintaining that facade. He thought of how many more would suffer if he were at the Wizard’s beck and call.
He thought about how that same wizard was the reason that Mia was gone.

“What possessed you to get behind the wheel of a tractor?" Miles cut him off.
“I-“ Phoenix started, but Miles wasn’t finished.
“You absolute moron. What compelled you to do something so stupid?” Miles slammed his hand down on the desk, causing Phoenix’s handcuffs to rattle.
Got any more synonyms? Phoenix thought better of saying. He was not sure he had ever seen Miles so livid.

“I don’t know what you fucked up, that’s what we’ve gotta find out. And the sooner the better. And of course they’re real, you’re in one! You gotta go through the day again and fix the mistake. Maybe you said something really awkward to someone and fate is throwing you a bone. Or maybe granny was actually a serial murderer and you saving her will cause a triple homicide in the future.”
“Interesting theories,” Phoenix nodded, but felt a little better. He could work with this. Just make little tweaks until everything fixed itself. Bluff his way through a time loop. Very on-brand.
