In Atlas's corrupt underbelly, an enigmatic and dangerous organization of rogue scientists has been assassinating crime lords for reasons unknown.

Summary
A crusade against splicing (lead primarily by religious institutions who believed it was an affront to God to tamper with His creatures in such a way; viewed splices themselves as monstrosities) eventually led to the prohibition of the study, though their efforts did surprisingly coincide with humanitarian groups, who succeeded in arguing for the experiments themselves.
In the following weeks, Splices capable of higher thought were given names and tooth chips, spent typically about 6 months in integration centers (ICs), learning to be “a part of society” before being dropped in their govt provided housing units, which were concentrated in sunken cities due to lesser costs (particularly on the sublevels, where Splices are pretty much regulated now).
Atlas has 3 ICs in the northwest, the northeast, and the south. They have all since been converted into detention centers.

[I'm not finishing the novelization because Splice is meant to be visual and I'm unwilling to spend more time writing a book for something that isn't a book. You can find the webcomic prologue at http://splice.cfw.me/]

Summary
Damien is – was – always in control. Until now, of course, when he had no control. Not over anyone, and least of all over himself, over anything that matters. For now, sure, but maybe forever.
No control, no knowledge; out of the loop and in the dark. And the last fucking thing Damien needed was some AM heart-eyed dickhead pitiying him, lying to him, lying to him–
It’s fine, though. It is going to be fine, because Damien is still in control; maybe not over anything that matters, but he can be in control over this. No…he can take control over this.

Summary
I'm cornered. I'll never be able to look the people I've failed to protect in the eye. My allies will end up in prison or exile, my research... in fire.
When the plague was cured, the Polyhedron destroyed, and the Haruspex victorious, Daniil Dankovsky did not remain in the town on the Gorkhon. Instead, wise to his presence and determined for retribution, the Inquisitor and the Army brought him back to the capital to be tried for his research—for crimes against natural reality, and therefore against the Powers That Be. After a year in prison, he has at last been sentenced to death... and there is only so long one man can fight against fate before he finally submits to the inevitable.
Artemy Burakh has no intention of letting that happen.

Summary
Daniil cleared his throat.
“The Powers That Be are the embodiment of order. There are always threads in the universe that dare to hang loose, and like a moth to a flame, they are always there to tug on them. The Powers That Be unravel everything simply to see what falls.”
“So what? The plague is... it's all gone.”
Daniil noted the slight tremor in Artemy’s voice. Artemy Burakh also lost many things in the chaos. He must also suffer from the nightmares. He must.
“They wanted me to die in the plague along with Aglaya and Block and yet, the more information they received from us, the more they urged us to cure the incurable. To preserve the town. Do you hear me? They will not leave a town of miracles alone. It may not be right away… but they will send someone.”
-
There's no choice but to build a new life and live with the consequences, and so they do. But the events of the plague left deep wounds with the pain and fear of loss ever looming.

Summary
Sure, now everyone wanted to hold hands, give out flowers, and pretend machines were real boys and girls or some shit. As if they weren’t hunting them through every city like rats just a month ago. People going nuts over their crusade one moment, stinking up the streets with the fires, and all of a sudden everything just fucking stops as though anything changed.
Nothing fucking changed.A machine was still a machine, no matter how fancy its program.

Summary
A month after France and Frank Harkness, Slough House is floundering beneath the weight of grief none of them quite know how to deal with. Fortunately, Catherine has returned, and she’s determined to fix things — starting with River, who’s carrying a secret that’s affecting how he acts both with her and with Lamb — until she and River are kidnapped from Slough House by a group of former slow horses that have a very serious bone to pick with Jackson Lamb.
It will be fine. Catherine knows that Lamb will come for River, and River knows that Lamb will come for Catherine, and until he does they simply have to keep the other alive long enough to be found. But what they’re not expecting is that these former slow horses don’t just want to hurt Lamb; they want to break River, and force Lamb to watch it happen.
But the former slow horses have made a significant error of judgement. Because with every recording they send of River’s torture, the more determined Lamb becomes to rescue his boy, and when he finally does get River and Catherine back he is never going to let them go. It’ll be a long, difficult road to recovery, but they’ll walk it together, all three of them.
[ or: the camcorder kidnapping fic, at last. ]
