She immediately regrets it, is on the verge of apologising, but Rhaenyra is quicker and out for blood now, a dangerous glint in her eye.
“Better a self-aware narcissist than a self-righteous, deluded, parasite. Tell me do they teach charlatanism at the Citadel or is that something you inherited from your father?”
(Modern Academics AU - Alicent, literature professor and noted novelist, returns to King’s Landing after a long absence to take a position at the same university where former best friend Rhaenyra is a member of the history faculty. Why did they fall out and why in the Seven are they teaching a lecture together?)

Calling Alicent’s music passionless is a stretch, considering she’s put house music on the map again, with millions of listeners on streaming platforms and a recent grammy nomination.
The interviewer adjusts his glasses, a sort of uneasy expression on his features, “if I didn’t know better, I’d think you’d heard her interview where she called your new album-“
“Barbaric?” She barks a laugh almost scarily, “yes I did.” Rhaenyra leans back, licks her lips and looks at the camera like she’s addressing someone directly. “Oh Alicent. Always so tidy, aren’t we? God forbid the bass wobble—I prefer to make a bit of a mess.”
After 5 years away from the London DJ scene to be a producer in L.A., Rhaenyra Targaryen returns to the festival circuit. Just as she’s getting settled back in, she’s chosen to co-headline one of the largest festivals in America with none other than Alicent Hightower, one of the world’s biggest names in House music and her ex best friend.

Summary
For what it was worth, the Queen knew that this all sounded absurd. Alicent had chosen her over her own son and by all standards of common sense she should have dismissed it as a trap, as another power play orchestrated by the Greens to trick her and her family into hurtling towards assured death, eliminating their claim to the Iron Throne once and for all.
But the way Alicent had recklessly come to Dragonstone alone and defenceless knowing full-well she would most likely be captured or killed putting her life squarely in Rhaenyra’s hands. The way her voice trembled, and her big brown eyes swelled with tears as she offered Rhaenyra King’s Landing and the Throne with it. The way come with me practically tumbled out of her as a desperate, incredulous plea. All of this convinced Rhaenyra that this was no coldly calculated, pre-conceived plan.

Set after 2x08, this work explores what might happen when Rhaenyra flies to take King's Landing and Alicent discovers Aegon is missing. Unapologetic rantings about the feelings these two have for each other in my mind.

Like a laughably, ridiculously pretty girl, nearly half a foot shorter than Rhaenyra, with curling red hair streaming down her back. She stood right in front of her, uncomfortably close, with these big, dark eyes almost as teary as Rhaenyra’s own.

Summary
And even if getting Rhaenyra in as a soloist was a staggering show of nepotism, she was still the best concert pianist on the planet. It was like when Dmitri Junior recorded Shostakovich’s second. You could get mad about it for a bit, but it was ultimately fair game. Alicent had already reached all these conclusions because Viserys had spoken to her weeks ago about programming the Concerto, which only had the unwanted effect of giving her time to turn it over in her brain like a particularly nauseating Rubix cube. Each solution of the puzzle led her to the same conclusion: she would be seeing Rhaenyra imminently, and there wasn’t a damn thing she could do about it.
After ten years apart, Rhaenyra Targaryen re-enters Alicent's life for a set of solo engagements with her orchestra. Things go about as well as expected (not very).
