Summary
Madison Clements isn't a lot of things.
She isn't a cape, she isn't even an adult yet, and she isn't a good person.
Most of all, she isn't even sure how to handle that revelation.
What do you do when you can't stand who you've become? When you need to face the person in the mirror, but don't want to see what is the reflection?
For Madison, the answer lies in what all the stories say people do for introspection. They go on a journey, and Celeste Mountain is where she'll have hers.
The fact she has climbed a negative amount of Mountains in her life does not play a factor in her decision making.

Nelsonville was quiet tonight; so sleepy an untrained eye might think it was playing dead. The uninformed might think Nelsonville was perfectly safe, but look behind the mask and you’d see that it’s only mostly perfectly safe: a community in major need of minor assistance. Yes, statistically, it was one of the safest hamlets in Ohio, but there’d been two robberies just in the past six months, and by two different people! Money laundering was rampant—Liv didn’t believe for a second that that mini golf course was a legitimate business—and someone was growing a field of Marijaunas in the woods behind her middle school.
There’d also been five murders, but the victim in all of them had been the same girl, so Liv wasn’t sure they counted.

The fox smiled, friendly as can be as a button appeared next to it. ‘Enable camera,’ it read. "Hold your homework up to the camera. Scan it here! I can help!" the fox said, swishing its tail back and forth.
Taylor glanced up at the little bit of plastic sitting on top of the computer. She rolled her lips together, studying it curiously. Sweat licked down the back of her neck. The room seemed to be getting hotter. She wasn’t entirely sure why.
"Hold your homework up to the camera," the fox said. "Scan it here! I can—"
Taylor clicked the button. She’d never done this before, but it couldn’t hurt. The little blue light on the camera flicked on and the fans whirred to life, louder than they'd ever been. She grabbed the crumpled math sheet and held it up for the camera to see, blinking up at the lens as the fans whirred faster, rougher. They stopped and started again and again, rhythmically, like the computer itself was gasping. Like it was breathing hard.

Having the character developments of so many versions that went in completely different directions doesn't do anything good for her mind, but at least one thing is consistent. At least Taylor will be here... she has to be
