“Surely, I have seen you before. I’m Neuvillette. Perhaps you were present at a hearing?” Neuvillette’s exhalation comes shaking as he numbly holds out a hand to take the folder from the man. “And you are?”
The question comes soft past Neuvillette’s lips, and a gentle dread settles in his stomach. This is a mistake. Is unlike him, but yet, this is what feels right. This strange meeting could be a delusion. Could be crafted of dreams and something unwell.
“Henry Rite.”
“Oh. I see.” Neuvillette laughs a little, but it’s a weak thing as they both stand. “That wouldn’t happen to be a hypocorism of Wriothesley?”
Neuvillette should stop talking. Should let this poor man be on his way, and find his own as well.“We’re a family rich in the arts. It wouldn’t surprise me if the name was carried down a few centuries past.” Henry follows Neuvillette to the stairs, back up to the street. “Let me pay for your cab. It’s the least I can do.”

“It seems we are well overdue for a vacation.” Neuvillette lifts his head to smile up at Wriothesley. To steal a kiss from waiting lips. “Just for us.”
“We can take those books you’ve been meaning to read.”Indulgent romances that Neuvillette curls up with when time allows it. The week before, they’d found themselves at a stand, pouring over the latest light novels from Inazuma. Neuvillette walked away with six books, discreetly slipped into a brown paper bag.
“And I fear the cabin may be worse for wear with how much time has passed since I’ve lodged there,” Neuvillette adds, as more of an afterthought. “I do wonder how the Melusines have fared, keeping it in shape.”
Neuvillette supposes they will simply have to wait and see.
- In dire need of time away from the Court, Neuvillette and Wriothesley go on vacation to a run-down cabin in Loch Urania. A holiday renovation seems to be the perfect project to take their minds off work.

Summary
Despite the wrongness that frosted his heart, Wriothesley couldn’t deviate from the narrative. The dream felt real, but he never felt truly in control. It was a play, a script he couldn’t read but had to perform.
He pushed open the heavy wooden doors, forcing himself inside the castle. It was noisy, creaking and rumbling against the silence of the night, but stealth wasn’t his style. Some part of him knew he didn’t need to try and hide, either.
Inside, atop grand stairs, was a pale figure glowing in the darkness. The beautiful man stood in front of a grand window. The moon was covered in clouds, little strands of moonlight framing the cold silhouette of the beast. Wriothesley’s dream gave him another word: Vampire.

Neuvillette’s breath stills.
Wriothesley continues. “Just… you know. The kind of dreams where you’re falling, or running, or buried under something. And no one notices.”
He doesn’t look away as he says it.
“They stopped for a while,” he adds. “After I met you. After I—after we—” He shakes his head. “But last night it wasn’t me. It was you. And I couldn’t do anything.”
“You reached for me,” Neuvillette says again, gently.
Wriothesley gives him a look. “I know. You said that already.”
“I’ll say it again if I must.”
A beat.
Then Wriothesley chuckles, rough and low and not quite healed. “You always this stubborn in the morning?”
Or, Wriothesley reaches out, and this time, Neuvillette reaches back.
