Summary
The Winter Soldier exists for one reason: Protect Bucky Barnes. It is an ongoing mission, one that does not change when their HYDRA handlers are exchanged for the Avengers. Except the Winter Soldier has no defenses against magic, no contingencies planned for when Bucky is ripped out from his protective cocoon and exposed to the world in a body of his own. It’s a mission adjustment that neither of them were prepared for. At least now they have back up, if they’re willing to accept it.

And sure, he wouldn’t mind taking a minute to himself, those shame rooms hurt a little more than he’d care to admit. But there’s no time for that with all of this new responsibility.
So, his nightmares are back, sure, he’s used to them. And no more therapy, no time. And oh? Sam doesn’t want to talk anymore? Okay that’s fine. He’s back in the middle of all the chaos? Cool sure.
And as for focusing on himself and his own health? Okay let’s be honest, when did he ever do that?
Or, Bob has a bad night, and Bucky’s the only one around to help. Unfortunately, they end up in Bucky’s shame rooms instead. But that’s okay, cause Bucky’s totally over it now. Totally.

He just hadn’t thought… well, that didn’t matter now. Just leave it at that. Hob hadn’t thought.
Hob needs someone to sub in for an edged weapons demo very last minute. He probably should have been suspicious when Dream offered.

The last person Dream expects to see in Burgess' basement is Hob Gadling, who has apparently been asked to consult on the restoration of the historic manor. He is pleased when his old acquaintance helps free him without a second thought, despite their past squabble, but he is horrified to realise that breaking the binding circle does nothing to return his powers to him, and that he cannot return to the Dreaming after having been released from his cage.
Weak, confused, and distressingly human, he consents to being taken back to Hob's home to be cared for until he can regain his strength. When he falls asleep that night (which he should never have had need for), he finally finds his way back to his palace, only to find someone else sitting on his throne, wearing his ruby, and claiming his name as her own — Dream of the Endless.

“Gonna use your teeth?” Roche asked. “Or do you think you can keep this up long enough to strangle me?”
“Let’s find out,” Iorveth said, and leaned down on his forearm. Roche struggled, and managed to get his shoulder at such an angle that Iorveth couldn’t compress his windpipe.
