Inside the elevator, Xie Lian pretends not to hear workers whispering beside her.
"Is that it—? Crimson Rain's new assistant?"
"It must be. Always a new face with that one."
"I wonder how long this one will last. Crimson Rain already has Yin Yu. I still don't really get why she would need another assistant."
"Well, you know how it is. She's called Crimson Rain for a reason you know—because everybody that works with her cries tears of blood from stress!"
Well, isn't that lovely, Xie Lian thinks. She dutifully ignores the rumors and stumbles out when the elevator arrives at her floor.
She reports to Crimson Rain—legally known as Hua Cheng from the hiring documents she had skimmed—only mildly disheveled.

When Mu Qing proposes a plan for Xie Lian to act as a spy in Ghost City, he agrees on the off chance he might be able to help put an end to a cruel tyrant. But the more time he spends with Hua Cheng, the more he thinks heaven might not fully understand what kind of man Hua Cheng is.
