Jackie sits back in her seat, taking a sip of coffee as she considers her husband’s proposal.
It wasn’t a terrible idea. It’d involve lying to all the other WAGs, but Jackie wasn’t too bothered by that. If Shane ever decided to come out, they would either understand or they wouldn’t—a line that would probably pretty closely mirror those who would be okay with Shane being gay and those who wouldn’t. And those who wouldn’t—well, fuck them anyway.
“That does sound like it might be nice,” Jackie finally says, smiling when Hayden immediately sits up straighter at her approving words.
“Yeah?” Hayden checks anyways.
“Yeah,” Jackie says.
Or, despite his refusal to let her add him to the WAG group chat, Jackie manages to quickly befriend Shane’s boyfriend. It takes longer for her to understand exactly what that means.

Though… that’s not entirely accurate. Henry can distinctly see a human torso disappearing into what appears to be a long tail in varying shades of gold, orange, and red. Even in the diluted light of the cloudy day, the scales shine, iridescent and gorgeous. A merman.
Henry gasps, a small sound that shouldn’t be audible over the crash of the waves. Nevertheless, the merman turns sharply toward him.
