Summary
The BAU have a new case - a string of suspicious suicides in Las Vegas with too many similarities to be coincidental. As they start to unravel the mystery, Derek becomes increasingly preoccupied by one of their key witnesses Spencer Reid, a chronic gambler and drug addict who never left to join the BAU.
When it becomes obvious that there is a serial killer at work, the team utilises Spencer's intelligence to help crack the case. Derek, however, can't help but feel protective over the younger man, especially when the case takes a dangerous turn.
Spencer doesn't want his protection. He's lived his whole life fending for himself and barely just surviving. And yet, he finds that maybe he doesn't mind the fact that someone other than himself cares about his wellbeing.
Maybe, just maybe, the two of them will find their way to each other.
Or;
A universe where Spencer never joins the BAU, but crosses paths with them anyway.

Summary
As soon as Yuna realised how well ginger worked at easing Shane's sickness, she went out of her way to buy as many ginger products as she could. Ginger candies, ginger cookies, ginger supplements and then, eventually, ginger ale.
Ginger ale was the one that stuck, and soon enough, Yuna never went anywhere without a backup ginger ale.
Did he maybe develop some sort of reliance on the drink? He wouldn't necessarily say so. Everyone had a favourite drink; Yuna loved coffee, David loved tea, Ilya loved Coke and Shane loved ginger ale.
There was nothing weird about it, okay?

Shane has used ginger his whole life to ease his anxiety. Now, he has something even better.

"You know Morgan, he's not going to let something like this keep him down," JJ continued, although her voice shook even as she attempted to give Spencer a supporting smile. Tears gathered in her eyes.
Spencer couldn't speak, he couldn't even attempt to meet her gaze.She didn't know, so he couldn't fault her. This wasn't the same as hearing that a co-worker, a member of your team, had been shot. She pulls his hands off Spencer's bleeding shoulder and gestures down to his chest with her head. "Start compressions," she says.
He stares dumbly at her. There's a sticky sensation on his fingers but he doesn't dare look down. Everything comes in waves of understanding as he moves his gaze down towards Spencer's blank face. Spencer… Spencer's not breathing…
"Derek, start compressions!" Emily yells. It barely manages to snap him out of his daze but he does as she says.

When they teach you CPR, they never tell you what it feels like to break someone's ribs.

"I'm trying to document the interesting things that happen in my life," Spencer says.
Derek smiles at him. "I'm an interesting thing in your life?"
There's a pause for a moment and then the camera drops just a little, cutting off the top of Derek's head. Spencer's voice, when he finally speaks, comes out softly. "Of course," he says.
Penelope gifts Spencer a video camera.
It turns out that Derek Morgan is one of Spencer's favourite things to capture on film.
