Oh, how he wishes he could have chosen.
In a world where you're either overlooked or exploited for your quirk, Hawks would love nothing more than to be invisible. To disappear from the fame, from the eyes, from the responsibilities that he never asked for when his parents gave him away to the Commission, from the pain.
Though pain makes itself known eventually, whether you invite it to or not.
But really, sitting on the floor of the League of Villains, thinking like a child just to cope, was not how Hawks envisioned the pain showing up.
OR
A lil fic of mine about how the Commission really treated its best "heroes" and the coping mechanisms, good or bad, that one particular hero derived from it. Add in some projection, a bit of fluff between the hurt, and, suddenly, it's a fic.

Summary
Aizawa doesn’t like flashy and reckless heroes, therefore, he doesn’t like Hawks. Mirko, being flashy and reckless herself, has no problem being best friends with the number 2 pro, even though their conversations almost never go beyond work. Tsukauchi, on the other hand, doesn’t care about any of that. They have a job to do, and, when it comes to heroism, no one can deny Hawks’ efficiency.
That job becomes a lot more complicated when a villain with a particularly vicious quirk attacks. Now, these coworkers find themselves facing an unexpected crisis because, suddenly, Hawks no longer acts childish, which is especially weird considering that now he is, in fact, a child.Aka: A classic de-aging incident, in which Hawks terrifies everyone with his, previously very secretive, childhood.

He does his best to mind his own business, but when his chatterbox upperclassman and fellow intern gets de-aged, the kid latches onto Touya more than anyone else. Babysitting's not the worst thing in the world, and despite his exuberant teenage counterpart, little Keigo actually seems to be an incredibly shy kid. Well, a few days of babysitting isn't going to change anything, right?
