When darkness catches up with her, however, she must face up to her insecurities and rise to the evil that threatens her kingdom. Who knew such a simple question could be so loaded? Caitlyn Kiramman sure didn't. She thought she was happy. She had the seemingly perfect life. Good job, stable family, more money than any one person had any right to have, a fiancée who loved her. Everything was coming up Kiramman, as far as the universe was concerned. But was this really it? Was this what happiness truly was?
Was this as good as it gets?

Vi was pretty sure this was as good as it was going to get for her. Fresh out of prison, with a roof over her head, a good job, a best friend that hadn't abandoned her, and her sister...she finally had her sister back in her life again. Her life felt good for the first time in a long time. Not perfect, because perfect was a fantasy, at least for Zaunites like her. They didn't get perfect, not like the Pilties did. But for Vi, this had to be as good as it gets.

Summary
While serving time in Stillwater Prison, a lonely Vi decides to sign up for the penpal program. On the outside, Caitlyn has dropped out of law school to try and find herself, and ends up also signing up for the program on a whim. When they are paired up and begin writing letters, each of them finds exactly what they need.

Vi doesn’t die in the explosion, however it leaves her blind. She must learn to navigate a world where everything is dark and she is too stubborn to ask for help. Will a newly appointed Sheriff be able to shine a light in Vi’s dark world or will Vi just push the woman away like she does everyone who tries to help.
Or just a story I can’t get out of my head.
