It’s all the acknowledgement that they need for one another. There’s no ‘Good Evenings’ – no questions about how their days had been. They don’t need that, not with what Toriel is likely about to propose.
“What, pray tell, are you doing in my office?” Carol interrogates, flicking her head to one side with a stubborn showcase of her attitude.
And yet Toriel doesn’t falter. She never does.
“You invited me in,” she retorts. “You tell me.”
