He’s not surprised when for once, Jaskier doesn’t have a witty reply but just smiles sheepishly and tries not to shrug, since the bullet had actually grazed his shoulder so he really shouldn’t move right now.
“Eh,” he finally says after Geralt has stitched half of the wound, “I told you on the first day that I really don’t do well with following instructions now, didn’t I?”

The next day, she actually does compliment him whenever he lands blows right during their training — he doesn’t manage to take her by surprise, but he lasts more than he did yesterday, so he is building up strength, which is not bad whatsoever.
The first time she does, he gets distracted enough that she almost disarms him. The other times, though, he doesn’t, but his cheeks do flush ever so slightly when she says it, and she sees the pattern. It’s not just because he’s getting tired.
No, it happens just when she tells him something nice about whatever it is that he’s doing.
