“Look,” Will says, turning fully on the pallet to face Mike, one hand reaching down for the rough wood to find purchase and ground him. “Do you-, do you want to show me. Like-, like want to practice?”
Mike’s eyes widen but he doesn't say anything.
“Sorry, stupid idea, just wanted to help.” Will is trying to gather the words back up from the air between them and into his mouth.
“I never thought it was stupid.” Mike says, so quietly it's not much more than an exhale. “I suggested it first.” He adds, like it's a secret.
Will grips the pallet harder. “Show me. I really do want to help.”
Mike bites his lip a sec, and Will thinks he's going to say no, but then Mike's darting forward and pressing his lips firm and quick against Will’s. It's barely a kiss. Not romantic. Not enough to leave a scar. Will bleeds anyway.

Or: Mike has been kissing Will on and off since they were seven. How are you supposed to recognise an avalanche when you are drowning in snowballs?

Summary
Will’s not sure why it started, he's even a little hazy on how it started, but he's never been one to look a gift horse in the mouth - not when he could be kissing it.
He’d tried talking to Mike about it after the first time, to ask what it meant, but Mike had just brushed him off and pretended it never happened. Will’s heart had broken right down the middle, like a gate through Hawkins, and it was only mended when Mike pressed his lips to Will’s again, four hours later. There was obviously this rule - this unspoken law - that this was all on Mike’s terms; under the table, on the downlow.
And Will was just the grateful bastard who would get off on what he could get.

Summary
Will leans forward on one hand, elbow on his knee, and looks up at Mike. He seems a little more awake now, away from the harsh lights of upstairs, and there's a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
Will doesn't look lost anymore. Will looks found.
Mike watches him, opens his mouth a minute, then closes it again. Will raises an eyebrow. "What?"
Mike has never been quick on the uptake. Realisation dawns; not like a Sunrise, but all at once, with just one look.

“He wanted to see me. He missed me. He was just kissing me better.”
Then his Dad is crossing the threshold into Will’s room and his space and flinging him bodily back down on the bed. “Kissing a boy makes you a fag. Are you a fag, boy?”
Will shakes his head, too frightened to speak. The walls are closing in on him again, and there are black spots in his vision. The comforter feels rough beneath his fingers, and he could swear the whole bed is shaking with him. He doesn’t know what a fag is, but he doesn’t want to be one if it makes his Dad angry.
“You tell him never to fucking do that again. You push him away if he tries, you hear me? You fucking punch him.” And Will nods, anything to speed his Dad’s departure from his room.
He can tell Mike not to kiss him; he can follow through with that. But if he ever tries again Will won’t be pushing him away. Whatever a fag is, it can’t compete with the feeling of Mike’s lips on his; like Will is kissing the universe.

Then, unfortunately, Eddie Kaspbrak met Richie Tozier. More truthfully, Richie Tozier ran into Eddie Kaspbrak, and shook everything up along with it.
Richie was bright, he was loud and foul-mouthed, and he joked around more than he did anything else. Richie was long and tall and curly black hair and big eyes and pink lips, and Eddie had wanted him. From the very first moment, Eddie had wanted him. That wasn’t new to Eddie, the whole crush thing. But then Richie introduced Eddie to his friends, and he talked to Eddie softly and he wrapped Eddie up into his arms. And then he was queer. And then, and then, and then. With Richie, everything was a surprise. Nothing was ever predictable, or easy to figure out and organize, which had frustrated Eddie just as much as it had intrigued him.
