The Doctor can't prevent his breath from hitching as he watches her helplessly, heat blooming across his cheeks until he can feel it in his ears.

The last time I saw him, he was in the parking lot outside of the stadium where most of the county graduations were held. Pretty sure I made some joke about how I hadn’t bothered with wearing anything under my graduation gown, and he’d looked at me solemnly and told me to go join my friends.
Damn, I’m such an idiot.
“Pretty disappointing that my star pupil can’t even remember the words of her mentor, and worse, she’s passing them off as the ramblings of some uncle who died at least three times in her senior year so she could skip different classes,” he says, opening the screen door and stepping out onto the porch.
I take a step back, note crumpling in my hands.
“I was never your star pupil,” I say.
He smiles. “But a star nonetheless. Rey Niima.”
I swallow and my life seems transfixed to this spot while speeding back in time to my senior year of English class.
“Fuck,” I curse. “Hello, Mister Solo.”
