“If nothing happened, you wouldn’t be here,” she interrupted, and it was dangerously close to sounding more wistful than blunt. “Don’t make me ask again.”
Memories with a certain someone linger on Maiko's mind, and she decides to talk them out with Ismene Circe, who is still recovering from her previous mindset on prisoners voted corrupt. An agonizing conversation follows.

The brush was back in her hands again, but it was hard to focus on her work now that she was hearing sentences she could understand. “For what?” she asked, not looking up from waves of strawberry blonde hair.
“For ranting.” Maiko toyed with her hands. “And for… sounding really lame, y’know…”
Maiko asks Ismene to braid her hair during a sleepover. While she's working, the older woman has the perfect opportunity to rant about her favorite manga... that Ismene can't wrap her head around.

The golfer padded past door after door, distantly wondering if any of her new ‘classmates’ could hear her footsteps. As she approached the dining hall, she debated what meal she could make that would take as little effort as possible and still be worth risking her life by leaving her dorm for. Her train of thought was derailed, however, when the silence of the academy was replaced by a broken, strained sound just a few feet ahead of her.
A hitched, tired sob that turned panicked at the sight of Grace entering the dining hall.

After the events of their first trial, Grace finds herself unable to sleep. Deciding that a midnight snack would fix this problem, she makes her way to the dining hall, unaware that she'd come face-to-face with a certain gremlin.
