Summary
Before Ue had even noticed, they were walking into the bakery. The sudden blast of warmth from the heater and tinkling of the bell startled him out of his thoughts.
“What flavor do you want?” Mafuyu asked.
“Oh, um… you choose. I’m fine with whatever.” Uenoyama rubbed the back of his neck and looked away.
“Okay!” Mafuyu approached the counter and asked for two slices of Black Forest cake to go. The cashier handed him a plastic bag not long after. Uenoyama pulled out his wallet to pay for his half, but Mafuyu shook his head.
“My treat,” he said. Ue froze, a thousand-yen bill in his hand, and blinked at him. Mafuyu headed for the door, bag in hand and a small smile on his face. Ue quickly shoved his wallet back in his school bag and hurried to follow him. -
