    Summary

Dick and Bruce are like this:
Not the sun and moon, a love devastated by circumstance, a story of light and gravity but a different beast altogether. A nucleus fissuring into two, borne of the same energy, the same matter, the same decay.

Their story has always been radioactive.

A canon-divergent take on Dick's return after Spyral featuring debilitating self-loathing and guilt, interspersed with the ordeal of being unmasked and the subsequent waning sense of personhood.

    Summary

Damian's first impression of his father's ancestral home—and thus, by extension, of his own—is of cold. His second, coming immediately after the first, is of a kind of wretched, clinging dampness. The house, barely visible through the driving rain, lurks like a great lumpen beast on the lawns, less a house than an assemblage of wings and awnings and spires, windows scattered willy-nilly across its front.

    Summary

Clark had come out of surgery not long after that. He’d looked gray, under the fluorescent lights of the clinic, and he’d leaned heavily on Bruce on the way to the Batmobile. That had been two nights ago.

And now he was standing in the center of the cave fastening his cape. He turned as Bruce approached, and his face was cheerful and open. He clapped a hand on Bruce’s shoulder and held it there, that kind of casual grounding touch he was so fond of. “There you are,” he said. “Thanks for the hospitality, but I’ve got to run. There’s a huge blaze near the chemical plant, and it could get bad very quickly.”

“You’re not leaving,” Bruce said, which was his first mistake.

    Summary

Clark wants to take Bruce’s hand, but Bruce would see it as pity. He wants to ask, “why didn’t you ask for help, if it was this bad?” But he doesn’t, because he knows the answer. Bruce is fiercely protective of his own independence, resents any intrusion into the territory he considers his own. If the League had tried to help, Bruce would have viewed it as an insult, proof that they didn’t think he could handle it alone.

Bruce is still staring at the far wall.

“Do you really want me to go,” Clark says.

“Please,” Bruce says. And it’s that word, the word that Bruce uses so, so rarely, that sends him out the door.

    --

After Bane breaks Batman's spine, Clark visits Bruce.
