Summary
The Haruspex’s story must end in sacrifice.
That was one of the first things Artemy learned when he came back to the Town, bloody and dragging himself to safety, his return will not be an easy one.
Over the Plague, the terms of that sacrifice built themselves up, a beautiful woman in love with him already, a set of parallel lines, someone equal to Simon, someone not quite human. It was either the trap set for him from the start, or a self-fulfilling prophecy—any murder that led to the end of the Sand Pest would be accepted.
The Haruspex finds another solution to his question, neither the Tower nor the Inquisitor. And with that solution, finds a way to maintain the world as he knew it, as well as fulfilling his role.
