Summary
Es la primera vez en semana y media que Bruce se mira a sí mismo en el espejo, y no puede evitar odiar lo que ve. Luce saludable a pesar de la barba, con los pómulos y la mandíbula de siempre, los ojos del mismo color, las ojeras con la misma profundidad que desde hace veinte años cuando inició con su misión como Batman. Se ve sano. Se ve vivo; y no puede evitar mirarse a sí mismo con odio debido a ese hecho. El monstruo frente a él sólo refleja el odio que siente, luce como la clase de monstruo capaz de asesinar cosas buenas, cosas perfectas.
Frente a él sólo puede ver a Bruce Wayne, el asesino de dioses, el asesino de la Esperanza.
(O, esa en la que Bruce intenta lidiar con la muerte de Clark, ayudando a Martha Kent a sobrellevar la muerte de su hijo, enamorándose en el proceso aún más del hombre al que sabe que asesinó).

Es gracioso que Clark le haya dicho a Bruce hace tantos meses que no se conocían lo suficiente para confesarse enamorado, pero han pasado tres meses y Bruce ha podido conocer a Clark, y no ha podido evitar enamorarse.

Summary
"In the middle of the night" es una serie que incluye el fic original ("don't bury thoughts that you really want, within me lies what you really want") en el cual Bruce Wayne se enamora de su enemigo sin darse cuenta de ello.
En el segundo fic ("i summoned you, please come to me"), ubicado durante los tres meses en los que Clark estuvo muerto, Bruce debe aprender lidiar con ello mientras navega sus tendencias a autocastigarse, lidiar con la culpa y sus problemas de autoestima y valía. Involuntariamente, se convierte en el confidente de Martha Kent, a la cual ayuda a sobrellevar la muerte de su hijo, y conforme se vuelven más cercanos, aprende sobre Clark, enamorándose en el proceso de él y sufriendo por ello al saber que nunca podrá tenerlo, hasta que la noticia de que pueden revivirlo le otorga una renovada sensación de fe.
