The bell above the door chimed sweetly, immediately drowned out by a shrill “HEEHEEHEEHEE!” from an electronic witch's voice box Razz had installed by the entrance.
“Oooh, that's new!”
Catra froze. Runner Girl was early today. Catra let the ball of wire lights tumble from her hands and got to her feet, slowly walking to the edge of the aisle to get a clear look at the coffee bar.
“It’s festive, dearie!” Razz called from the front register.
“It’s gonna drive me to homicide before my shift ends,” Mermista droned from the counter.
Catra exhaled slowly and shook her hands out. Today was going to be the day. She'd promised herself that much on Tuesday. She could hide in the shadows of these bookshelves forever, stealing glances at the girl of her dreams, or she could finally step into the light and say something. Anything.

Broke college student Catra doesn't believe in ghosts...or talking to the blonde runner she's been crushing on all semester, but she does believe in cash and rent is due tomorrow, so accepting a cryptic gig in a supposed haunted house from some rich kids on Halloween couldn't possibly combine all three, could it?
