“да?” Ilya began, sounding tired and put-out. Still, he answered. Shane reveled in that fact for the shortest of moments. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make his voice work; he just stared at the phone beside him, eyes wide in fear and his bottom lip caught between his teeth.
A frustrated sigh and shuffling came through the other end. “Какого черта…” said Ilya. “Hollander?”

“Compliant,” Shane offers dizzily.
“Yes, this. Compliant.” Ilya’s hips swivel, and he hits that perfect angle with every syrupy thrust, lighting him up from the inside. “Following orders, no arguing. You should be like this all the time.”
“You’d hate that,” Shane says, without hesitation, even as his voice breaks into a whimper.
Ilya chokes out a ragged laugh and admits, “Yes, probably.”
[Or: Shane insists that he is fine, Ilya insists that he is selfish, and they both insist that this whole thing is casual. Everyone here is lying through their fucking teeth.]

After Alexei walks in on Sasha hitting on Ilya at the gala in Sochi, he does the most predictable - but terrifying - thing: he blackmails Ilya Rozanov, on the threat of telling Russia, and their father, the truth about Ilya's sexuality.
It's a good thing that a very helpful, boring Canadian with gorgeous freckles offers to help him defect from Russia, in the most insane way possible: through marriage. To him.
Or, Shane and Ilya do their relationship completely out of order. And, they realize later, they wouldn't have it any other way.

“Whoa, hey, take it easy,” the blonde says sharply. “Drop the gun.” She’s standing, coming toward him with her hands raised, and she’s clearly not a threat, but Dean’s not letting his guard down yet. He eases his finger off the safety but keeps it pointed at her.
“Where’s my brother?” Dean snaps.
“You just Apparated into the middle of my house, buddy, how ‘bout I ask the questions?” she says, unfazed. Which. Fair. Dean lowers the gun slightly.
The second he starts to relax, the blonde is whipping around like a goddamn ninja and kicking the gun out of his hand. She settles back into a fighting stance, looking way more serious than anyone wearing sparkly lip gloss has any right to look. Dean’s so stunned he doesn’t even try to fight back; he stares for a second, torn between the urge to pull his other gun out of the back of his pants, just to make a point, and the urge to propose on the spot, because wow.
