“I…don’t want you to go,” is all she can admit, hugging her knees to her chest. The words echo…and she’d be embarrassed by them, except that it’s just Callum hearing them.
“I can sit out here,” he offers.
Before she can answer—
“—or I could come in.”
The thought rolls quickly down her spine, while the idea hangs in the steam.
It’s why she wants him here, and it’s not: she’d have been soothed just by him sitting there talking to her too.
But Callum coming in here—
To…sit with her while she washes?
To…bathe with her?
It feels—big.

Summary
Two years before Aaravos is due to return, something shifts between Rayla and Callum. The honeymoon phase is over, and with time slipping so quickly, it's becoming harder and harder to spend time together.
It gets to the point where Rayla's nightmares return, with the same ferocity they had when she was eighteen, and she is forced to confront the distance between them or risk their relationship (and her psyche) receiving irreparable harm.
(A sequel to "The Lullaby of Your Heart" but can be read as a standalone.)
