When it came to Zaun’s nightlife, there were two sides to every cog. There was tricking on one side, and fucking on the other. Mostly for pay, if not for pleasure. The odds could spin and spin, but chances are most late-night encounters were landing on either side.
Anything other than that, well. Those kinds of meetings were left behind velvet curtains for good reason.
Love didn’t belong here, not on these streets. Not in this life. There were a lot of rules Vander drilled into their brains before he passed, but it seemed this was the only one he missed.
The only one that mattered.

“Ugh, you’re disgusting.”
Vi grins sharply, a dangerous glint in her eyes as she absentmindedly taps away at a rhythm on the shared kitchen’s dining table, her enjoyment of Caitlyn’s frustration as clear as day.
Caitlyn thinks she needs more sleep, or someone to shake her, because she unfortunately thinks this back and forth is… doing it for her. So she ignores the way her cheeks flush, her stomach tight and her jaw tense, as she grabs her leftovers and leaves the kitchen.
(She has unfortunately already indeed thought about banging this drummer.)

Summary
After ten years in Stillwater for a crime she didn't commit, Vi breaks herself out and goes home. Her homecoming doesn't go like she thought it would.
Two years later, she's out of control and out on the streets. She's now a champion pitfighter, a raging alcoholic, and completely on her own. Despite her family's best (and desperate) efforts to help, Vi's on a one-way track to ending up either dead or back in prison.
At the same time, Caitlyn arrives in the undercity to collect data and information for her thesis. She starts her research from a local bar called The Last Drop, which puts her right into Vi's path. Vi might have been out of her family's home for years, but she's still not going to let a topsider put them in danger.
Canon divergence (everyone lives!), enemies to lovers (barely, the lovers aspect happens fast), angst, trauma, addiction, and also fluff and humour (because these things can co-exist!)
